Dr James Stiehl has retired from active practice in orthopaedic surgery. He has an active consulting career and was a founder of Stiehl Tech LLC, a medical device company

He had an active academic focus publishing 4 textbooks where he was the lead author, and 105 peer reviewed scientific publications published in peer reviewed medical journals. 

He is best known for scientific research with a focus on digital technologies and surgical technique. 

 

Currently he is the financial officer and is in charge of developement for the company he  founded, Stiehl Tech LLC. He has filed several patents on a project started in 2006 regarding surgical lavage delivery systems in orthopaedic surgery. That company created a new surgical irrigation system, Perilav, that will feature a peristaltic pump used primarily to prevent surgical site infections and to treat chronic infections in trauma and periprosthetic infections.
